Wow, fall has been a busy time in the Yakima Valley. There has been so much to do for such a diverse range of interests!
Of course, our Central Washington State Fair held at the State Fair Park is the centerpiece in late September/early October. One of the highlights of the fair is the great entertainment they bring in. This year is no exception and there is a healthy mix of current, ethnic and classic entertainment for you to choose from. The Beach Boys, John Anderson, Loverboy, Maddie & Tae, Eric Burdon & The Animals and Conjunto Primavera are acts that will be performing this week (Parmalee, Blue Oyster Cult and Graciela Beltran Y Los Enamorados have already performed by this blog post.) Racing and demolition fans can still attend Monster Truck Madness, the Demolition Derby and Truck Demolition derby 10/2 - 10/4. This past weekend, Union Gap was treated to 'Bows & Blades' at Fullbright Park. There was archery, rapier contests (a type of fencing), target shoots, trebuchets and more. Participants were dressed in medieval times period clothing and participated in the events themselves and patiently taught 'newbies' some of their unique talents. The Central Washington Ag Museum was host to the 1st Annual Horse-N-Harness event this weekend. The museum has numerous buggies and carriages that can be pulled by horses, and there has been a need to have more horses trained with this skill set. It is a bit of a learning process for the horses and their owners, and we were excited for the event to occur in Union Gap!
Our final note today is for the Yakima Valley Kennel Club's three day All Breed Agility Trials, there are still a few days left to register (closes 9/30). The event takes place on October 16, 17, and 18, 2015. This event is at Union Gap's Fullbright Park, 4508 E. Main Street in Union Gap, WA 98903. Judging begins Friday October 16th at noon with Excellent only dogs entered in Standard Agility and Jumpers with Weaves. On Saturday and Sunday judging begins at 9am with Standard Agility and Jumpers with Weaves offered both days for all Regular and Preferred classes with Time to Beat on Saturday only. Judges this year are Jeffery Ipser for Friday, Saturday and Sunday and Jan Skurzynski on Saturday and Sunday.
